What is a CDFA® pro?
A Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® (CDFA®) professional is someone who’s been certified by the Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts® (IDFA®) — the premier national organization dedicated to the certification, education, and promotion of the use of financial professionals in the divorce space.
CDFA® pros are skilled at analyzing data and providing expertise on the financial side of divorce. They’ve met extensive training, exam, and continuing education requirements. You can learn more on the IDFA® website.
What’s the difference between a CDFA® pro and a CFP® pro?
CDFA® pros and CFP® pros are both types of certified financial professionals. Whereas CFP® pros typically have broad expertise across all areas of financial planning, CDFA® pros specialize in divorce and may have a financial planning, accounting, and/or legal background.
Ellevest’s all-women financial planning team includes both CDFA® pros and CFP® pros.
What kinds of questions can a CDFA® pro answer?
Here are some examples of questions a CDFA® pro can answer:
- What will the divorce process be like?
- What are the tax considerations when dividing up assets?
- How do I get child or spousal support?
- What will happen to my pension and/or retirement plan?
- What financial resources are available to me?
