The cost basis of an asset is the original value used for tax purposes, usually the purchase price. You compare the current or sale price of an asset to its cost basis in order to calculate a gain or loss.
You can view information about realized and unrealized gains in your account, by logging into the Goldman Sachs Custody Solutions, formerly Folio, website. (Goldman Sachs Custody Solutions is your account’s broker-dealer and custodian.) You can find your username on desktop by clicking on “Hi, [your name]” in the top right-hand corner of your Dashboard and then selecting “Accounts” from the dropdown menu. Your username and login information will be on the page under your Investment Account.
Click here to log in to your Goldman Sachs Custody Solutions account. Then you'll click on “Statements and Tax Records.” At the bottom of the page, you should see a section labeled “Unrealized Gains/Losses”, which shows the cost basis for securities you still hold. ”Realized Gains/Losses" shows the cost basis for securities you have sold.
