Who can be an Ellevest client?
Ellevest is for everyone who's felt like the investing industry wasn’t built for them. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to build wealth. Our intention is to help break down barriers that have historically benefited white men. Women are certainly not the only people who’ve been impacted by gender-based biases, and everyone is welcome here.
When you join Ellevest, we ask for your gender identity because we use gender-specific data, like salary curves and expected lifespan, to inform the investing recommendations we make for you. These salary curves are based on data from the US Current Population Survey, a nationally representative sample of full-time earners.
While salary differences between men and women have been extensively studied, trends in the financial experiences of non-binary people aren’t clear yet. In the absence of better data specific to these groups, and because they don’t typically experience the same privileges and advantages in the workplace that cisgender men do, our investing algorithm uses women’s salary curve data to project how much non-binary and gender non-conforming people may be able to invest.

Am I eligible to be an Ellevest client?

You’re able to be an Ellevest client as long as you meet the following requirements:

A US citizen or US Permanent Resident. During the account opening process, you may need to provide a copy of a state-issued driver’s license, US passport, or Permanent Resident card

Have a permanent US residential address (not a P.O. Box) in one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico

Have a US Social Security Number

Have a checking or savings account with a US bank

Are 18 years of age or older
If you meet these requirements, then you can become an Ellevest client! Please note, we are not able to advise on individual eligibility.
Can I use Ellevest if I live outside the US?
Ellevest is only available for people living in 1 of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or Puerto Rico; have a Social Security number; and have a checking or savings account with a US bank.
That’s because the financial laws and regulations vary depending on the country where a person lives, and we can only provide investment advice to people who fall under the United States’ jurisdiction.
We recognize that you may be an American citizen living abroad temporarily due to an employment opportunity, military obligation, familial responsibility, or other circumstance not entirely under your control. Due to varying foreign regulations on internet accessibility and privacy, you may not be able to access the Ellevest website and authorize transactions as needed when living abroad. If you work for a US based employer, hold at least 90% of your liquid assets in US financial institutions, and expect to return to the US in fewer than 5 years, please email us at support@ellevest.com, and we will determine on a case-by-case basis if we can fulfill the full suite of services listed in the ADV.
