Below are answers to some common questions around editing your goals. If you’re looking to see how you can adjust what’s in your portfolio, check this out.
Can I change the name of my investing goals or accounts?
At this time, it’s not possible to assign new names for your investing goals.
Additionally, goals cannot be instantly transformed into another investing goal type (i.e., a Home goal can't be switched into a Build Wealth goal). Instead, funds must be transferred between goals.
Can I have multiples of the same goal or account?
At this time, only one of each goal type can exist in a given Ellevest account. For instance, there can only be one Kids goal and only one Ellevest Roth IRA.
We hope to provide some more flexibility here in the future and appreciate your patience in the meantime!
Additionally, each Social Security Number (SSN) can only be used once. This means our clients can only have one set of investment goals, and clients cannot have multiple Ellevest accounts opened with the intention of investing.
How can I change the values associated with my goals (i.e. target amount, time horizon, deposit amount)
You can make changes to these by navigating to the top-left corner of your Ellevest dashboard and selecting "Investing". Here you'll see an option for the "Goal Planner".
On the Goal Planner, you can navigate to the goal you're looking to adjust, and enter new values for your target amount, recurring or one-time deposits, and the timeline of the goal. Please note, saving these changes will put them into effect immediately.
How can I adjust the investing portfolio for my goal?
How can I delete a goal?
You can remove goals from your plan by clicking on the goal edit screen and selecting “Delete goal” at the bottom.
Please note that you can only delete goals that you haven’t started funding yet (or attempted to fund).
The Add/Remove function isn’t available on the mobile website, so for now you’ll need to make the update from a desktop or laptop computer or on the Ellevest mobile app.
What happens when I reach my goal?
Congratulations on reaching your goal!
Your recurring deposits will continue unless you decide to turn them off. No need to withdraw your funds until you’re ready to.
Want to keep going? You can extend the timeline of your current goal. Please note, though, that changing your goal’s timeline could cause a rebalance and capital gains tax.
Or maybe now is the time to think about adding a new goal. If you’re not sure what to do next, you can always schedule a session with an Ellevest financial planner and we can figure it out together.
